Meta Farming Runs

What a farming run is

In Sir, We Have an Orc Problem, a farming run is any attempt where your primary goal is meta currency rather than an immediate flawless clear. The incremental design expects this: you lose or survive with leaks, open the upgrade tree, buy a node, and retry with permanently higher stats. Launch-week players sometimes treat losses as failure when they are actually the main progression vector - especially on Level 4 and Level 5 where orc speed ramps faster than casual placement keeps up.

This guide complements Economy and Meta Progression with practical session etiquette: which maps to farm, when surrender is allowed, and how to stop spinning on the wrong node.

Rules that changed in demo patches

Two patch notes matter more than any tower tip:

  1. Orc move speed increases per level (June 12, 2026) - a layout that farms well on map three may leak earlier on map five even with the same towers.
  2. Bonus Resources surrender rule (June 4, 2026) - flat Bonus Resources no longer pays if you surrender. You must finish the level (win or lose) to collect the flat bonus. Scaling Bonus Resources 2 can still apply on surrender.

Read Bonus Resources before planning overnight farms. Read Patch Notes when post-launch tuning changes payout wording again.

Pick the right map to farm

Farm the hardest map you can survive long enough to fund a node, not the map that humiliates you in thirty seconds. Good candidates:

  • The latest map where you reach the mid-wave before leaking
  • One step back if income per minute beats struggling on the frontier
  • Early maps only when you need fast, low-stress payout after buying expensive caps

Check level select enemy counts before committing. Higher counts mean more kill currency if your kill zone stays alive. Level 4 Walkthrough and Early Levels describe when to step back versus push forward.

Spend immediately, every time

Hoarding meta currency feels safe but slows power curves. After every attempt:

  1. Open the upgrade tree before restarting the map.
  2. Buy the node Upgrade Priority recommends for your stage - usually payout, penetration, or one tower cap.
  3. Avoid buying three tiny combat crumbs when one payout node compounds across the next four runs.
  4. If nothing affordable helps, you picked the wrong farm map - drop back one level.

The embedded gameplay example shows how incremental streams fund Gunner and Flamethrower unlocks across repeat battles. Your tree will differ, but the spend-before-retry rhythm should match.

Intentional loss versus surrender

Intentional loss means letting the base fall after extracting value - max kills, ability tests, or time survived. That still counts as finishing the level for flat Bonus Resources.

Surrender is only correct when you understand which wallet you are giving up. If you own flat Bonus Resources, surrender costs that payout. Use surrender to reset a bad scout layout quickly, not to end a farm early.

When in doubt, let the wave end naturally. Tips and Tricks covers session pacing for launch week.

Economy nodes that multiply farms

These purchases shorten every future farm session:

  • End-of-battle payout percentage - best early buy on maps you plan to repeat
  • Gunner fire rate and penetration - more kills per second in the same choke
  • Flamethrower tick reliability - free damage on every orc through the front arc
  • Tower caps - only after the choke is full; empty slots mean placement failed

Alternate economy and combat so clears keep pace with income. Six combat nodes with zero payout is the classic Level 4 stall. Details live on Economy Upgrades.

Clean wins versus farm wins

Clean wins (no leaks) often grant bonus currency for ability branches. Chase them once your kill zone is stable, not while you still leak half the wave. Farm wins fund the tree; clean wins accelerate expensive tips like nukes and orbital lasers.

Track whether your last three attempts improved survival time and currency earned. If both flatline, fix placement before buying another damage node. Damage Statistics settles tower arguments after instrumented farms.

Session templates

Short session (20 minutes): three attempts on the frontier map, spend after each, one scout rebuild if leaks shift.

Medium session (45 minutes): farm frontier until two nodes unlock, then push the next map once with the new stats.

Completionist session: after campaign clear, farm late maps for leftover tree nodes using Late-Game Walkthrough layouts and Upgrade Planner targets.

Common farming mistakes

  • Surrendering with flat Bonus Resources purchased
  • Farming a map where you die before meaningful kill totals
  • Buying tower caps when placement has empty tiles on the main stream
  • Ignoring speed-per-level and never rebuilding the flame front
  • Copying forum builds without matching meta unlocks

Launch week context

On July 28, 2026 full release day, players asked about price, endless mode, and Flamethrower balance on Steam - not about whether farming exists. Use FAQ Hub for store questions and Launch Day Notes for unlock timing. Farming etiquette stays the same: finish runs, spend aggressively, rebuild when speed ramps.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Should I surrender farm runs?

Only if you do not rely on flat Bonus Resources, or if you only need Bonus Resources 2 scaling. Otherwise finish the level win or lose.

Which map is best for farming?

The hardest map where you survive long enough to buy a node each attempt. Step back one map if attempts end too quickly.

Do failed runs still give meta currency?

Yes. Kills and partial progress convert to resources you spend before retrying. That is the core incremental loop.
