Level 3 Walkthrough

Where Level 3 sits in the campaign

Level 3 is the bridge between Early Levels tutorial habits and the scaling pressure of Level 4. Orc counts climb past the first-map hundreds into low thousands, paths may split, and your meta tree should offer Flamethrower unlock or be one farm run away. Speed has not yet jumped to mid-campaign extremes, but players who skip economy nodes here often stall on Level 4 even with correct Gunner placement.

Treat Level 3 as a training map for mixed towers: Gunner backbone, first Flamethrower front, optional missile burst discipline, and mandatory spend-after-every-run rhythm.

Before you start Level 3

Confirm these account milestones from early maps:

If you lack payout nodes, farm Level 1 or 2 once before pushing. Meta Farming Runs explains why messy wins beat perfection here.

Scout and choke setup

Run a scout battle with one or two Gunners only. Watch:

  1. Which lane carries the highest density
  2. Whether a secondary path needs a light Gunner line or can wait
  3. Where a future Flamethrower arc could cover the full stream width

Recall with R and rebuild. Level 3 punishes Gunners spread evenly across the trench - overlap cones at the primary pinch. Choke Points covers funnel geometry; this map is where you first apply it under real counts.

Flamethrower unlock pivot

If Flamethrower is available in the meta tree, unlock it before grinding Level 3 for a fifth Gunner damage crumb. Place one Flamethrower at the front of the main stream so every orc takes at least one burn tick before Gunners focus fire.

Do not replace all Gunners with flames. Level 3 still needs single-target DPS for stragglers and uneven pathing. Template: Flamethrower front, two Gunner segments behind on the same choke.

Forum debates about Flamethrower balance rarely matter on Level 3 - the map is wide enough that burn softening pays if the cone covers the approach. Narrow side paths may still prefer Gunners only.

Abilities on Level 3

Missiles remain your primary active tool. Save clicks for mid-wave clumps, not the opening trickle. If you already unlocked bombing runs, one painted strike on the merge point can salvage a messy first clear - but do not rely on abilities every wave; Mid-Game Walkthrough assumes you learned restraint here.

See Abilities Tier List for phase ranking: missiles S tier early.

Economy between attempts

Spend all currency after every attempt. Priority on Level 3:

  1. Flamethrower unlock if missing
  2. Gunner fire rate or one cap increase
  3. Second payout node if Level 4 looks imminent
  4. Missile radius only if leaks are timing problems, not DPS problems

Use Upgrade Priority and the Upgrade Planner so Level 4 does not surprise you with speed-per-level scaling.

Common Level 3 mistakes

  • Skipping meta spend after a near-win
  • Placing Flamethrower deep in the base instead of on the approach
  • Ignoring a secondary leak lane while over-building primary DPS
  • Chasing ability upgrades before tower caps
  • Static layout copied from Level 2 without scouting Level 3 pathing

When Level 3 is done

You are ready for Level 4 Walkthrough when:

  • Flamethrower is tested at the choke front
  • At least one economy node purchased
  • You clear Level 3 without panic-spending every ability
  • Meta income feels stable (one node per attempt)

If speed and counts already feel brutal, read Enemies and Scaling before blaming tower choice.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Should I unlock Flamethrower before beating Level 3?

Yes if the node is available. One Flamethrower front on the main choke usually beats another Gunner damage upgrade for Level 3 pathing.

Is Level 3 still early game?

It is the late early / pre-scaling band. It teaches mixed towers and economy before Level 4 speed ramps.

How many Gunners do I need on Level 3?

Two overlapping at the primary choke plus one Flamethrower front is a common opener. Scout first before adding a third Gunner.
