Sir We Have an Orc Problem Damage Statistics, Headhunter, and Power Shot
Demo combat nodes that settle tower debates - readouts versus real damage buffs.
Why these nodes deserve their own page
The June 12 demo patch added Headhunter, Damage Statistics, and Power Shot - three combat-tree nodes that changed how players argue about builds on Steam. Damage Statistics is a post-battle readout, not a damage multiplier. Headhunter and Power Shot do alter combat behaviour. Confusing them wastes currency and produces forum posts that contradict in-game numbers.
This guide explains each node, when to unlock them, and how to act on the data. Combat Upgrades covers broader tower paths; Upgrade Priority sequences them in the campaign.
Damage Statistics - the readout node
What it does: After each battle, shows which towers and abilities contributed damage totals. Essential for comparing Flamethrower burn versus Mortar splash versus Gunner penetration on your layout.
What it does not do: Increase DPS. Buying it expecting raw power disappoints. Treat it as a measurement tool like a damage meter in an MMO.
When to unlock: Mid campaign, before grinding ten marginal +0.1 Gunner nodes. Two instrumented runs settle whether flames or Cannons carry Level 4 and Level 5 better than forum tier lists.
How to use the data:
- Run the same map twice without changing placement.
- Note top contributor and leak timestamp.
- If Flamethrower wins by 10x but you still leak, the choke is timing/speed not softening - rebuild geometry per Turret Arcs.
- If Mortars win but flames tick air, rotate cones before buying flame damage.
- Compare ability totals to turret totals - if missiles dominate, you may be under-towered (Abilities Tier List).
Launch-week threads about Statistics Page QoL overlap this node - the shipped readout lives on the combat tree, not a separate menu.
Headhunter - elite target priority
What it does: Improves performance against high-value or tanky targets that survive initial AoE. Complements softening setups that delete trash orcs but leak chunky units.
What it does not do: Fix volume leaks when thousands of weak orcs overwhelm base HP. Headhunter is a cleanup node, not a horde delete button.
When to unlock: After baseline AoE and Flamethrower fronts stabilise. Useful on maps where Damage Statistics shows low kill efficiency despite high total damage - stragglers with too much HP.
Pair with Beat Hard Levels farm loops when one elite leak ruins perfect clears.
Power Shot - burst windows
What it does: Adds burst or enhanced shot patterns tied to combat branches (exact numbers vary by patch). Often synergises with manual missile timing or ability windows between cooldowns.
What it does not do: Replace Mortar or Cannon investment on clump maps. Power Shot spikes; turrets sustain.
When to unlock: Late mid-campaign after economy and cap stability. Upgrade Priority places it after Damage Statistics and core penetration nodes.
Unlock order summary
| Node | Type | Typical timing |
|---|---|---|
| Damage Statistics | Readout | Mid campaign, before build arguments |
| Headhunter | Combat modifier | When tanky leaks persist after AoE |
| Power Shot | Combat burst | Late mid, after caps and penetration |
Spend order always respects economy payout nodes early per Economy Upgrades - measurement without DPS still loses runs.
Settling Flamethrower debates with data
Threads titled “Flamethrowers are completly OP” and “How are you all using flamers?” both make sense after reading Damage Statistics on the same map:
- Wide funnel + full cone → flames top chart
- Narrow choke + bypass cone → Mortars/Cannons top chart
Strategy response without data is guesswork. Unlock the readout, run two attempts, then read Flamethrower Strategy.
Ability stat panels
Demo patches also added stat panels for abilities alongside tower readouts. Compare missile and bombing run totals to turret lines when deciding whether you are ability-dependent. Tower-only challengers use this to prove automation - see Tower-Only Challenges.
Patch awareness
Balance passes change tick damage, Headhunter scaling, and Power Shot burst. After Patch Notes updates, re-run one instrumented map before continuing an old route. Nodes stay purchased permanently; their relative value shifts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Does Damage Statistics increase damage?
No. It is a post-battle readout only. It helps you decide where to spend real combat nodes.
Should I unlock Damage Statistics early?
Mid campaign is ideal - after basic Gunner nodes but before grinding many tiny damage upgrades blindly.
What is Headhunter for?
Improving performance against tanky or priority targets that survive AoE softening.
Is Power Shot required to finish the game?
No. It is a burst modifier for players who want extra punch in timed windows, not a campaign gate.
