Practical habits that turn chaotic orc streams into controlled kill zones.

Tips and Tricks

Play the stream, not the screenshot

Sir, We Have an Orc Problem treats orcs like a fluid. Towers that look neat in a quiet build phase can miss the real river once thousands of bodies push. Run one scout attempt on every new map: place almost nothing, watch where density forms, recall with R, then rebuild on the true choke. Pair this habit with Choke Points and How to Play.

Level select now shows enemy counts. Use that number to decide whether the map is a farm or a push. High counts with rising move speed (patched per level) mean you need Flamethrower fronts and ability savings, not another Gunner dragged across empty dirt.

Kill-zone stacking beats carpet placement

Community consensus is blunt: scattering turrets everywhere loses. Stack overlapping fire on one or two funnels. Typical layering:

  1. Flamethrowers at the front of the flow so every orc burns once.
  2. Gunners / Cannons on long straight segments for penetration lines.
  3. Mortars aimed at merge points where clumps form.
  4. Manual missiles and bombing runs only when the kill zone is full.

If community threads call Flamethrowers “OP”, they usually mean wide approaches where every orc walks through fire. On needle chokes, penetration Gunners and Cannons still win. Confirm with Damage Statistics after you unlock it - see Combat Upgrades.

Farm runs are a feature

Losing still pays meta currency. Deliberate farm loops beat rage retries:

  • Attempt A: scout pathing.
  • Attempts B-C: survive longer, buy economy or caps between battles.
  • Attempt D: push for a clean clear when DPS spikes.

If you own flat Bonus Resources, do not surrender for the flat payout - finish the loss on the end screen. Scaling Bonus Resources 2 can still help on surrender; details live on Bonus Resources and the Patch Notes.

Ability timing discipline

Missiles on the first ten orcs waste radius. Wait until the kill zone packs. Bombing runs and orbital lasers erase crises, not openers. Pause-menu multi-cast strafing was fixed in the June 12 demo - plan real cooldowns. Read Missiles, Bombing Runs, and Orbital Laser and Nukes.

Upgrade habits that save hours

  • Buy one or two economy nodes early so every farm pays more.
  • Unlock Damage Statistics before arguing about +0.1 damage purchases.
  • Grab Headhunter after AoE is stable if chunky targets leak.
  • Use Power Shot when manual burst windows matter between ability cooldowns.
  • Raise tower caps before stacking the fifth tiny damage node on one Gunner.

Order these with Upgrade Priority and the Upgrade Planner.

Level five and late pressure

Level 5 received visual polish in demo patches and remains a favourite automation challenge. Fully automated flawless clears are possible once kill zones and meta nodes line up - study Level 5 Walkthrough and Beat Hard Levels. When orc speed outpaces your old layout, rebuild instead of buying only HP.

Input and comfort tips

Steam lists Mouse Only Option, Playable without Timed Input, Camera Comfort, and Custom Volume Controls. You can clear without keyboard, but number keys and Space still speed rebuilds - see Controls. On Steam Deck or Linux, confirm Vulkan 1.3 and four gigabytes of RAM via System Requirements.

Quick checklist before Space

  • Turrets sit on the observed stream, not the pretty ridge.
  • Flames cover the front; splash and penetration cover the merge.
  • Abilities saved for mid-wave density.
  • Wallet empty after the last battle - spend everything.
  • If farming Bonus Resources flat, plan to finish the run.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Are Flamethrowers always the best tip?

On wide fronts yes. On narrow chokes, prefer penetration Gunners and Cannons. Use Damage Statistics to settle arguments on your map.

Should I surrender farm runs quickly?

Not if you bought flat Bonus Resources - finish the level. Otherwise short farms are fine as long as you spend currency between attempts.

What is the single best habit?

Scout the real orc stream once, then rebuild the kill zone on that path before investing in expensive upgrade nodes.
